Susquehanna-Roseland
an electric reliability project**
National Park Service selects PSE&G’s preferred route for Susquehanna-Roseland power line
The National Park Service (NPS) has selected the route preferred by PSE&G and PPL Electric Utilities Corp. for the Susquehanna-Roseland power line. The selection of this route, which is already approved by the NJ Board of Public Utilities, is a major step forward for the project which will have significant benefits for millions of electricity users.
“We commend the National Park Service for its very thorough review, and for concluding that our proposed route provides the most appropriate balance of meeting society’s energy needs while minimizing impacts to federal lands,” said PSE&G President and COO Ralph LaRossa.
PSE&G will continue to work closely with the park service to finalize details of a major land purchase that will benefit the public and the environment, as well as work to avoid and minimize impacts of the project wherever possible.
PSE&G and PPL have proposed a mitigation package that would enable the utilities to purchase or preserve thousands of acres of land in the park. These acquisitions will protect scenic vistas for hikers on the Appalachian Trail and could significantly expand the NPS and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service land holdings. The mitigation package would have a lasting benefit for the NPS and other environmental organizations, as well as the public.
The NPS is expected to issue a Record of Decision on the project by October 1, 2012.
