Energy Efficiency
PSE&G is investing $277 million in energy efficiency, putting people to work and helping lower energy bills.
There is no cleaner or cheaper kilowatt-hour than the one that is not used.
PSE&G’s commitment to energy efficiency is a key component of our commitment to combating climate change and kick starting New Jersey's economy. This is why we are investing $240 million in 11 initiatives that are helping fund energy efficiency investments in places where they are needed most.
PSE&G is spreading the benefits of energy efficiency to the residents of NJ cities and to institutions that are used by the community, like hospitals and government offices. These programs are aimed at customers that might not otherwise make investments in energy efficiency that could lower their energy bills due to the upfront costs and long pay-back times.
In addition to energy savings and environmental benefits, PSE&G’s program is helping to create jobs- more than 1,000 jobs before we complete the existing program sometime next year.
In 2010, our energy efficiency programs helped PSE&G customers save more than 283 million kilowatt-hours of annual energy-the equivalent of a 30 megawatt power plant running continuously with zero dollar operating costs, and without pollution.
When the initiatives are completed we estimate that the total savings will be 58 MWs a year.
The programs also reduced participants’ utility bills by an estimated $31 million.
The PSE&G programs match customers who would benefit from energy efficiency upgrades with initiatives that help pay for them:
- Hospital Efficiency Program
- Direct Install Program (helps small businesses)
There has been enormous response to these programs, applications exceeded available resources. The programs are now fully committed and we are not currently taking applications.
Energy Efficiency upgrades can include furnaces, hot water heater, boilers, chillers, motors, pumps, insulation, energy management systems, lighting, etc. Financial benefits include financing with no interest loan and incentives up to 80% of the project’s cost.
